The All About the Fun Golf League

 

It was 2000 when a family tradition of spending Labor Day weekend on Daytona Beach began. The guys would play golf at LPGA on Saturday while the rest of the family stayed at the beach. The “family” included the VanBuskirk's (Ned) , the Vaccarella’s (Gary), the Britton’s (Buddy Love) and the Rivera’s (Papa Joe).

 

The tradition of the “Original Foursome” was born.

 

Buddy and Gary embarked on their 22nd Annual Sports trip. They were on a plane to San Diego to see the Dolphins play when they discussed the idea of a monthly golf league. Gary forced the idea and the idea came to fruition in January of 2001. The “All About Fun Golf League” was born. The first Saturday of every month was reserved for a great day of golf with friends and family. We created a points system and crowned a champion at the end of each year. Unfortunately during the first full year of existence, the annual Labor Day Classic in Daytona was canceled due to the Hurricanes of 2004.

 

With Tom Thrift's connection to Marriott Golf and Ned’s Pepsi influence, our outings were scheduled each month, on some of the best courses in the area. The Daytona Labor Day Classic was the only true “road trip” for many years. A second road trip was added to the league rotation in the month of May 2009 and the annual Port St. Lucie golf outing to PGA Village has evolved into a fantastic weekend of golf and fun.
